Rare Matégot “Palm Beach” Table and Chair Set, France, 1950s
Rare “Palm Beach” outdoor dining set by Mathieu Matégot, comprised of a round table and six chairs.
The chairs are raised on elegant, finely tapered legs, joined together by an x-shape stretcher. The backs and seats are of one-piece of cloverleaf-patterned sheet metal which gently curves over around the edges.
The table also has a top made of cloverleaf-patterned metal, curving over around the edge. The base forms two cones gathered at their apexes by a twisted iron rope. Unusual and elegant scalloped base, interspersed with rings.
Three colours are visible on the set: white, then blue and — lastly and majoritarily — green, making for an interesting overall effect.
