Maison Jansen Table and Three Chairs, France, circa 1940s
A garden set comprising a round table by Maison Jansen, with bow-motif detail around the apron, and three chairs that are not necessarily by Maison Jansen. They are more in the style of Marc du Plantier. The chairs in particular are very unusual and of beautiful design. They have rounded, barrel backs, with twisted iron rods; exaggeratedly scrolled arms; large, cabriole legs adorned with a losange motif on the knees; and back legs that extend outwards, creating a dramatic overall effect. The tabletop and chair seats are made of cloverleaf-patterned sheet metal. The set was painted a sea green color a long time ago, and the paint has worn and acquired a nice patina.
